The Brückenberg is a mountain on the eastern bank of the Werra - across from Creuzburg in the Wartburg district . It is part of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park .

The Brückenberg is named after the Creuzburger Werra bridge , which is located on the rocky steep bank of the Werra. Since the 13th century, the stone bridge has made it possible to climb over the Wallstieg to the summit of the mountain, from there the Altstrasse continued in the direction of Mihla and through the Hainich to the neighboring town of Langensalza .

On the western slope of the mountain there is a vantage point with a panoramic view of the north-western Thuringian Forest with the Wartburg and the Werra valley bridge near Hörschel. The mountain plateau has a peak height of 300.6  m above sea level. HN and was extensively cleared in the Middle Ages, field terraces, reading stone walls and vaulted bakers are still clearly visible in the area. Currently, splintered areas are still used as pasture and some gardens and orchards on the southern slope. Wine is said to have been grown on steep slopes. In an easterly direction, the nature reserve of the Nordmansteine and Ebenau heads connects.

A second section of the old road led over the southern slope of the Brückenberg to the valley, this can still be seen through sunken paths. A field name there is evidence of a late medieval special sanctuary as a quarantine station, it was supposed to prevent the introduction of epidemics. In 1499 the late Gothic Liborius Chapel was built on the Werra Bridge. In April 1945, German units holed up in order to thwart the crossing of the Werra from the advancing American combat units. There was heavy fighting and the pointless demolition of part of the bridge. The repair of the damage lasted until the 1950s. Tiny debris from the artillery weapons that were blown up on the Brückenberg can still be found occasionally on the field to the east.

Several hiking trails lead over the Brückenberg to the neighboring town of Mihla and into the Unstrut-Hainich district .
