The Brückenkeller is located on the southeastern edge of downtown Frankfurt on Schützenstrasse in the Fischerfeldviertel. Since the 17th century at the latest, the property belonged to the base of the Frankfurt rifle guild , which was always ready to fend off any attacks on the city. This is where the name of today's Schützenstraße comes from . Since the site is not only located on the former outskirts (near the Rechneigraben , just outside the former Frankfurt city fortifications , today ramparts ), but is also only a few steps away from the banks of the Main , the location was predestined for its original purpose. The land on site has extensive basements and was also used as a warehouse for the supply of the city and its residents in past centuries.

In 1652 the city council gave the rifle guild the right to serve free wine in their house. From that time on, the site has remained connected to the bar to the present day. During the 18th century, Johann Jakob Burck opened a wine shop in the cellars and vaults of the former Frankfurt Schützenhaus.

In 1795 the patrician families La Roche and Allinger took over the Burck wine business. The business was renamed La Roche & Allinger . Johann Wolfgang von Goethe belonged to the circle of friends of the families .

The name Brückenkeller was first created in 1926 . For the inauguration of the new Alte Brücke building from August 14th to 18th, 1926, La Roche & Allinger applied for a limited license. Based on the bridge festivities, the name Brückenkeller was chosen for the bar. This license was granted for an unlimited period at the urgent request of the guests of the Brückenkeller in 1927 and has remained in place to this day.

From 1927 to 1987 the Brückenkeller was a well-known restaurant in the region. In 1987 the Brückenkeller received a star from the Michelin Guide . At that time Michael Wehle was the restaurant's manager. From a culinary point of view, the Brückenkeller moved towards haute cuisine with Hans Haas as head chef from 1987 to 1991 . In 1991 the second Michelin star followed under Alfred Friedrich as head chef. No Michelin stars have been awarded since Friedrich left the Brückenkeller in 1996.

present

The Brückenkeller has been an event restaurant since 2005, which only opens upon reservation and from a certain number of people. Michael Wehle is still the owner, his son Dominic is the managing director.
