The Schönhof

The former Brauhof Brüderstraße 3 has undergone numerous changes. In 1504 two neighboring houses were combined to form the house with today's address at 3 Brüderstraße; after 1717 the building was given a baroque facade. Baroque stucco ceilings have been preserved in several rooms; there is also an older wall painting on the first floor. In the period of classicism , the originally two-story building was extended. Shops were added to the house in the late 19th century. The body of Marshal Duroc was embalmed at Brüderstraße 3 before it was transported to Paris .

The Silesian Museum is located in the house at Untermarkt 4 / Brüderstraße 8, the so-called Schönhof . The Schönhof was built as the residence of leading families in the city in the Middle Ages. In 1526 there was a renewal in the forms of the early Renaissance by Wendel Roßkopf the Elder , after the building fell victim to a city fire in 1525. The Schönhof, one of the oldest professional Renaissance buildings in Germany, was often used as a hostel for official guests of the city.

The Hallenhaus at Brüderstraße 9 is essentially a late Gothic building. It was built before 1480 and redesigned several times. The main hall, which begins on the first floor, and two baroque halls with stucco ceilings, which are also on the first floor, have been preserved. The facade of the house in its current form was designed in the second half of the 19th century; it was simplified again during a renovation in 1982 after it had been redesigned in the neo-renaissance style. The Renaissance portal was removed during a renovation in 1887. A copy of this portal has been on the house since 1981.

Brüderstraße 10 and 11

The house at Brüderstraße 10 was built around 1570 and later changed several times. It has a renaissance facade. A richly decorated column has been preserved from the Renaissance hall on the first floor. The portal of the house is older than the building itself: It dates from around 1530/40 and originally belonged to the house at Peterstraße 11. When this was demolished, the portal was salvaged and installed at Brüderstraße 10.

The facade of the hall building at Brüderstraße 11 was designed by Wendel Roßkopf the Elder. It shows the typical horizontal division into ribbon windows and the pilasters between the windows, which Roßkopf often used. Roßkopf's monogram and the year 1547 can be read in the right gusset of the portal. This makes the house one of Roßkopf's last works. The central hall and the Renaissance hall inside the house have been preserved, although the house has been redesigned several times over the centuries. The curved architrave is striking .

The building with the address Brüderstraße 16 is a four-storey renaissance building whose portal from 1566 still has late-Gothic design features. The house was built in the second half of the 16th century; A wooden beam ceiling with a casein painting from the 17th century was drawn into its ground floor hall, which was originally installed in the building at Rathausstraße 9 and was saved when it was demolished. The story of Jonas is shown. The ceiling is decorated with acanthus work . There is another painted wooden beam ceiling on the first floor. This comes from the baroque period.

A wing of the old town hall is also on Brüderstraße.
