Braille without limits

Braille Without Borders (Engl. Origin of the name Braille Without Borders (BWB)) is an international organization for the blind in developing countries . It was founded in 1998 in Lhasa , Tibet by Sabriye Tenberken and Paul Kronenberg . Its aim is to provide theoretical and practical skills to blind people in developing countries. Teaching Braille is of central importance. In addition, a Braille language code is to be developed for those languages ​​for which Braille is not yet available.

history

Originally known as the Project for the Blind, Tibet , the organization was renamed Braille Without Borders in September 2002 . A sponsorship group in Germany and a foundation in Switzerland support the project.

Schools and centers

Tibet Autonomous Region

  • School for the blind : The first center, a school for blind Tibetan children, was established in 1997 in Lhasa , the capital of Tibet .
  • Massage center : Clinical massage center set up and operated in Lhasa by blind masseurs.
  • Vocational Training Farm : a second center, a farm and cheese dairy for the vocational training of blind adults, was set up in Pelshong , 270 km west of Lhasa , near Samzhubzê .

India

  • Leh, information office : An information office for the blind and relatives has been opened in Leh , Ladakh , India . Land was also bought in Leh in order to set up a training center for the blind of Ladakh.
