Brancelho
Brancelho is a red grape grown in Portugal and approved in the Douro and Trás-os-Montes regions . In the Minho it is used in the red wine of the Vinho Verde growing region . In Galicia , Spain , the variety is known in the Rías Baixas region under the name Brancellão or Brancello.
The late-ripening and low-yielding variety produces a light, ruby-red quality wine with a low alcohol content and a delicate aroma.
Ampelographic varietal characteristics
In ampelography , the habitus is described as follows:
- The shoot tip is open. It is hairy white wool with a crimson tinge. The young leaves are spotted bronze-colored ( anthocyanin spots ).
- The medium-sized leaves are slightly kidney-shaped, five-lobed and have a medium-deep curve (see also the article leaf shape ). The stem bay is open in a V-shape. The blade is bluntly serrated. The teeth are set medium-wide in comparison to the grape varieties.
- The cone-shaped grape is medium to large in size and has loose berries. The elliptical berries are short, medium-sized and black and blue in color.
Brancelho is a variety of the noble grapevine ( Vitis vinifera ).

Brancelho is also known under the names Alvarelhão Ceitão, Alvarelho, Brancelhão, Brancellão, Brancello (in Galicia, Spain), Pirruivo, Varancelha, Varancelho, Verancelha and Vrancelha.
