Branko Strupar (born February 9, 1970 in Zagreb , SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Belgian national football player . In 1999, the native Croat received Belgian citizenship after marrying a Belgian woman .

Life

Strupar started his career at NK Zagreb . On the recommendation of Besnik Hasi , he switched to KRC Genk in 1994 . In 1996 the club was promoted to the Pro League . In 1998 he was named top scorer with 22 goals and Belgium's footballer of the year that same year . A year later he was able to celebrate the Belgian championship with the team.

1999 Strupar moved to Derby County in the English Premier League . His stay on the island was not blessed with success: Several injuries slowed him down and in 2002 he failed to stay up. But he remained loyal to the club. In 2003 he went back to his hometown and signed with Dinamo Zagreb , where he ended his career after a season.

Strupar played 17 times for Belgium , scoring five goals. He was part of the squad at the 2002 World Cup , but remained in his two missions without scoring.
