Bratislav Ristić

Bratislav Ristić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Братислав Ристић ; born April 1, 1954 ) is a former Yugoslav featherweight amateur boxer. He became vice European champion in 1975, took part in the Olympic Games in 1976 and became vice world champion in 1978.

Boxing career

Bratislav Ristić was around 1.74 m tall during his competitive career and boxed for Topličanin Prokuplje . At the beginning of his career he started in bantamweight and was Yugoslav junior champion in 1971. In 1973 he took part in the European Championships in Belgrade , but was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the later silver medalist Mircea Tone from Romania. Then he switched to featherweight.

He was Yugoslav champion in 1975 and started at the European Championships in Katowice , where he won the silver medal. He prevailed against the Olympians Rumen Peschew (5: 0) from Bulgaria and Gheorghe Ciochină (3: 2) from Romania, defeated the English Commonwealth Champion Patrick Cowdell (5: 0) in the semifinals and only lost to the Hungarian in the final Tibor Badari (0: 5).

In 1976 he was again Yugoslav champion, won the Balkan Championships in Zagreb and then represented his home country at the 21st Summer Olympic Games in Montreal . After a bye in the first preliminary round and a win without a fight in the second ( walkover exit of the Egyptian Mohamed Younes Naguib), he met Gustavo de la Cruz from the Dominican Republic in the round of 16, whom he defeated 4-1 on points. In the subsequent quarter-finals, however, he lost to Leszek Kosedowski from Poland (0: 5).

In 1977 he was again Yugoslav champion and took part in the European Championships in Halle , but lost to Viktor Rybakov from the Soviet Union (0: 5).

In 1978 he started at the World Championships in Belgrade , where he played Marino Radman from Sweden (5: 0), Eichi Jumavan from the USA (5: 0), this time also Viktor Rybakov from the Soviet Union (4: 1) and Antonio Esparragoza from Venezuela ( 5-0) defeated. Only in the final did he have to admit defeat to Ángel Herrera from Cuba (1: 4).

In 1979 he won a bronze medal at the 8th Mediterranean Games in Split .
