history

At the current location of the Ried brewery, beer was probably brewed as early as 1432, as a "Wernhart Prew" is documented that year. The brewery itself, on the other hand, dates back to 1536, when the "Georg Prewens Braüstadl" was mentioned in the description of the castle peace boundary in the Rieder district, then known as Schwarzmann. The brewery changed hands several times over the centuries and was owned by the Claudi family at the end of the 19th century.

In May 1891, August Claudi's son sold the brewery to the Bürgerliche Brauerei-Aktiengesellschaft in Ried, which subsequently invested in the operation. As early as 1908, however, the corporation sold the brewery to the cooperative founded by 152 innkeepers on July 30, 1908. On November 30, 1908, the brewery changed hands at a price of 544,000 crowns. As a result, the cooperative reported an output of 29,167 hl (1926/27) and 21,818 hl (1937/38).

The landlords filled bottled beer as early as 1910 and invested in a storage facility for large and small containers in 1911. In 1917 Therese Wagner acquired the soda water and lemonade concession.

After financial difficulties in 1926/27, the brewhouse was partially rebuilt and rebuilt in 1933/34 and a new refrigerated ship was built in 1936. In 1937 the brewery bought a second cooling machine, and in 1938 the lemonade production was modernized. After the crisis years of the Second World War, a full twelve-degree beer could only be served again in 1949. In the 1950s, the brewery invested in fully automatic bottling, a new steam boiler, the redesign of the storage cellar, the conversion of the garage wing and the purchase of a barley cleaning shop. In 1955 a new hop cellar was built and the buildings were renovated between 1956 and 1958. In the 1970s, further investments followed in the storage cellars, and a new malt grist plant was purchased. In 1985/86 the brewhouse was rebuilt and renewed, and in 1988 a new laboratory was opened. In 1990 a full and empties hall with Expedit was built with an extension, in 1992/93 the bottle filling, the bottle washing machine and the waste water system were modernized.

The brewery last invested in the reintroduction of the swing top bottle in 2003. In 2005 the company switched to the gentle cooking process, and in 2006 a new crate washer was purchased. In the course of the 100th anniversary of the brewery cooperative, extensive construction work was carried out, including a modern office wing with a sales shop, the existing warehouse was expanded and a logistics hall with a workshop wing was created.
