The brown-breasted wood warbler ( Setophaga castanea , syn .: Dendroica castanea ) is a small bird in the wood warbler family (Parulidae).

In summer the male has a distinctive plumage. It wears an auburn crown, auburn breast plumage, and auburn flanks. The underside plumage is white. The male has black plumage on the face that extends to the side of the head. The plumage is light yellow on the nape and on the side of the nape to the underside. There are two white wing rods on the black and gray wing covers. The females are much more inconspicuous in color in summer. As a winter dress, the brown-breasted wood warbler wears a greenish plumage on the head and on the top. The breast plumage and the flanks are yellowish.

Brown-breasted warblers mainly feed on insects . Berries , fruits and nectar are also consumed in winter .

Brown-breasted warbler often breed in the coniferous forests of northern North America , Canada via New England via the Great Lakes . In winter they move to the north of South America and are also rare guests in Western Europe .
