Bridal bustle near Wiesenburg / Mark

The Brautrummel is a periglacial dry valley in Hohen Fläming in the state of Brandenburg . It lies within the boundaries of the municipality of Wiesenburg / Mark near the hamlet Grubo . It is a natural monument .

History of origin

The origin of the hype in Hohen Fläming goes back to the last Vistula ice age. Although the region was free of ice, the ground was permanently frozen. In summer, the meltwater could not seep into the ground, but rather flowed off the surface and formed deeper and deeper valleys with trough-like slopes due to erosion on the upper reaches of already existing dry valleys. This expression was exacerbated by the destruction of the vegetation cover, for example when humans cleared forest areas. As a result, the rainwater was able to drain away even faster. According to tradition, the farmers used the fair as pasture for their sheep, goats and pigs.

Location and extent, naming

The main gorge of the Rummel lies in the nature reserve Hoher Fläming - Belziger Landschaftswiesen south of the road connecting Bad Belzig and Grubo. The up to ten meters deep hype runs in a south-easterly direction to Raben and extends over an area of 7.8 hectares . The gradient is around one percent towards the tarpaulin . The valley floor is around 30 meters wide in the northern area and up to 120 meters wide in the further course. Pine , English oak and birch grow on the side walls, as well as mountain ash , sloes and buckthorns . Normally there is no water in the hype. In July 2005, however, there was heavy rainfall, which led to a water level of up to 50 cm in the fair. Other important hype in Hohen Fläming are the Neuendorfer and Garreyer halls and the Steile Kieten near Bad Belzig .

According to tradition, a bride and groom from Grubo are said to have been in the hustle and bustle. They did not notice that a thunderstorm was approaching and that there was heavy precipitation. The water in the fair rose so quickly and strongly that they tried in vain to reach the embankment that saved them and drowned.

Sculpture by Sebastian David

Sculpture of david

About 300 meters south of the entrance to the main street 246 there is a walk-in wooden sculpture by Sebastian David with the title A Camp Bed for the Fläming . The work was inaugurated on December 21, 2014 in the presence of the artist. The opposite steles of the camp bed were each made from a trunk of oak from the castle park in Wiesenburg and represent - according to the artist - “the two imperfect halves of a whole that strive for unity. They open a field between them that is filled with search, longing, devotion, patience and love. "
