BRAVIS is a video conference software from Bravis International GmbH from Cottbus .

history

The video conference software Bravis was developed at the chair for computer networks and communication systems at the BTU Cottbus . It emerged from the previous version COVIS ( Cottbus Video Conference System ), a multi-participant video conference system that had been developed for closed discussion groups such as teleseminars and was first presented at CeBIT 2001. Bravis was originally planned as a teleteaching application for Brandenburg universities. It was presented at CeBIT 2003. In August 2005 Bravis GmbH was founded as a spin-off from BTU Cottbus.

BRAVIS International GmbH is the official successor of BRAVIS GmbH with all rights of the old BRAVIS GmbH.

functionality

The video conference system is based on the peer-to-peer method and does not need a central conference server. The software is started directly on the desktop. The group intelligence is guaranteed by the Group Communication Protocol (GCP) developed by BTU Cottbus, which can thus replace the server. It ensures the cohesion of the group in the video conference and also enables their moderation. The video streams are compressed in real time with the VP8 codec .

Range of functions

The Bravis Galaxee, which is available for private use, is available as a free version, Galaxee 4free. It enables conferences with up to four participants. For companies there is Bravis Professional, where up to 16 participants are possible at the same time. A conference room can be equipped with the full HD-capable conference room version. The in-house version is specially designed for customers with high security requirements. With this version, video conferences can be set up in a closed network without a central server.

All versions contain a file transfer function, an address book and a chat function.

Depending on the version, it is also possible to use an interactive whiteboard , moderate the conference, and share local applications, as well as desktop sharing.

The Bravis software is available in German, English, Spanish, French, Russian, Turkish and Polish.

Fields of application

Bravis is used by the German Bundestag and by companies such as Temmler , European Aeronautic Defense and Space Company and Vattenfall Europe Information Services GmbH . Bravis was awarded a Green IT -signet by the Initiative Mittelstand , because, among other things, using the video conference software avoids unnecessary travel. The software has been adapted for special areas of application. For the servicing of complicated machines, the version was developed in cooperation with the Benntec company, the DirectServ solution and a video consultation for doctors with which patients can have a video consultation with their family doctor in the simplest way. The version for gamers is used by the Electronic Sports League from Turtle Entertainment and game clans such as SK Gaming and mousesports to enable discussions between the players during the games.

In education Bravis is among others on the BTU Cottbus emerged from the Bravis from Hochschulverbund French German College , the Kansas State University , the University of Berlin School of Economics and the Technical and Norwegian University of Science used.
