Brechmorhoga is a genus of dragonflies consisting of 16 species. The genus belongs to the subfamily Trithemistinae and was described in 1894 by William Forsell Kirby . Ananimal of the previously unknown species Brechmorhoga grenadensis servedas the generotype ,which was laterdowngradedto a subspecies of the species Brechmorhoga pertinax . The distribution area extends from the southwest of the United States through Central America to northern Argentina .

Emetic Morhoga species are comparatively medium to large, black dragonflies and reach lengths between 40 and 62 millimeters. The abdomen ( abdomen ) and the chest ( thorax ) have some white and yellow markings and spots on the black base color. The wings are transparent.

Habitat

The adults of the genus Brechmorhoga occur along rivers and hunt especially in places where the water flows quickly through stony terrain.

Systematics

The systematics of the species is by no means fully clarified and many species are still unclear as to whether they really represent independent species. More species will likely be added in the future. At least one other species is still awaiting description. Very few of the larvae are also described.
