The house at Breite Straße 19 is a listed building in Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . The residential and commercial building now houses a restaurant and a guesthouse.

Architecture and history

The building is located on Breite Straße , one of the city's main shopping streets. It is a building from the 19th century, which was largely rebuilt after the town fire in 1851. The main building on the street side was rebuilt with functional, simple half-timbering. There is a pointed gable bay window on the roof. By expanding the ground floor, the previous symmetrical design of the building was changed. Business premises are located here today.

In the middle of the building, in the parapet area, there is a typical house brand in the form of a handled vessel with the two initials A and M, which stand for the previous owner, the businessman Adolph Meier.

The west side of the building borders on the building at Breite Straße 17, which is also a listed building .

The building at Breite Straße 19 was erected for residential and business purposes in place of the previous building that was destroyed in the city fire. The lower floor was expanded for the public.

Before 1895 the building had the address Breite Straße 181. At that time it was a residential building with a courtyard, barn across, defeat on the right, wash house and barn (both in 1892/93 change in substance to barn). The entire building was converted into a residential building with a courtyard in 1897/1898. The owners of the building come from the well-known Forcke family of pharmacists from Wernigerode, after whom Forckestrasse between Salzbergstrasse and Johann-Sebastian-Bach-Strasse is named. According to Dr. Albert Forcke, the merchant Ernst Tetzner became the new house owner at the end of the 19th century.

In the local register of monuments , the house is listed as a monument under registration number 094 25159.
