Bremen is the largest city in Fairfield County in the US state of Ohio . It is about 60 km east of Columbus .

According to data from the United States Census Bureau , Bremen had 1,265 inhabitants in 2000. The parish area was 2.1 km², all land area. The population density is therefore 600 inhabitants / km².

history

Bremen was founded in 1834 by George Berry, who named the city after Bremen , the hometown of his father-in-law. Before a railway line was built around 1850, it was mainly a rural settlement. That all changed when oil was discovered in 1907, which made Bremen grow rapidly and become wealthy. The oil boom lasted into the 1920s, after which the newly founded companies and agriculture became the most important branches of the economy again.

Demographic data

According to the 2000 census, 1,265 people lived here in 483 households and 360 families. The population density was 600 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 99.45 percent white and 0.55 percent of two or more races. 0.32 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 483 households, 39.8 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 58.0 percent were married couples living together, 10.8 percent were single mothers, and 25.3 percent were non-families. 23.2 percent were single households and 13.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.06.

29.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24, 29.3 percent between 25 and 44, 20.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.1 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 88.5 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 89.8 males.

The median income for a household in the 38.036 USD , the average income of families 44,844 USD. Males had a median income of $ 33,472 versus $ 22,202 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,408. 6.9 percent of the population, including 10.7 percent under the age of 18 and 4.6 percent over 65, lived below the poverty line.
