history

Radio Bremen's first port concert was broadcast on May 25th (Whitsun) 1947. For a long time it took place every two weeks. The program traditionally started with a theme tune and the music was live. By the sixtieth anniversary on June 3, 2007, over 1,350 episodes had been broadcast. The program's editors were Adolf Braune, Gerd Michel, Claus Jacob and, since 1998, Günther Meyer. Other moderators were in addition to the named editors and a. Peter Otto , at appearances in southern and western Germany and in Berlin Nero Brandenburg or Otto Höpfner .

Until the 1980s, the Bremen Harbor Concert was much more extensive in its line-up than it was in the following years. A central element at this time was the North German Wind Orchestra , which was directed by Wilfried Majowski , Karl-Heinz Becker and Michael Wintering . The big band Bremer Stadtmusikanten under the direction of Prof. Harry Schmadtke later usually accompanied two vocal soloists from the folk-maritime music scene. A shanty choir was always there. In a round of talks, the ties between the Hanseatic city and Radio Bremen were documented with ports and shipping.

The Bremer Hafenkonzert was finally broadcast four times a year, sometimes monthly or every 14 days, live early Sunday morning between 8 and 10 a.m. - always from a different location in Bremen , Bremerhaven or the Bremen area . But there were also broadcasts from cruise ships or from other cities that were not in the broadcasting area of Radio Bremen.

The show reached its historical climax on August 29, 2010 for the Sail in Bremerhaven . The 1393rd program was broadcast there for the first time on television on Radio Bremen TV .

On October 27, 2013, Radio Bremen stopped broadcasting due to high costs.
