Brendan Cowell (born August 16, 1976 in Cronulla , New South Wales ) is an Australian actor and screenwriter .

life and career

Brendan Cowell was born near Sydney , the youngest of three children . His sisters later belonged to the pop band Girlfriend . Cowell attended Charles Sturt University in Bathurst after school , from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in theater .

He has been an actor since 1999. In 2000 he starred as Hayden in The Monkey's Mask . This was followed by recurring roles in the series Life Support and Fat Cow Motel . From 2004 to 2007 Cowell starred as Tom Jackson in the series Love My Way . He made film appearances with To End All Wars - The True Hell , Noise , Ten Empty or Heroes of Hill 60 . In 2013 he appeared in the series The Borgias . In 2017 he took on the role of the iron fleet captain Harrag in the seventh season of the series Game of Thrones .

In addition to his film and television work, Cowell also appears regularly in the theater and writes screenplays, especially for series and short films. His play Ruben Guthrie , performed at the Belvoir St Theater , was a great success. In 2010 he published his first novel, How it Feels . In 2017 he took on the role of Galileo Galilei in the Bertolt Brecht production of Das Leben des Galilei .

He made headlines when he publicly attacked the Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott as one of many , who allegedly did not campaign enough for the release of two death-row drug smugglers in Indonesia. He later apologized for what he said and closed his Twitter account.

Cowell was in a relationship with actress Rose Byrne for six years . He lives in Newtown , New South Wales and is an avowed fan of the rugby league team Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks .
