Career

Brent Meeke began his career as a striker with the Niagara Falls Flyers in the North American League OHA in 1969. After three seasons in which he scored 10 goals in 142 games and gave 50 assists, he moved to the Phoenix Roadrunners in the WHL . After a year, he then made the jump to the NHL , where he appeared for the Golden Seals and the Cleveland Barons . The California team selected him as number 118 in the eighth round of the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft . In the long run, Meeke was unable to establish himself in the NHL. Until the 1976/77 season he had to return to the CHL to the Salt Lake Golden Eagles , a farm team of the California Golden Seals. Nevertheless, he managed 9 goals and 22 assists in the NHL.

After a year of abstinence from ice hockey, he moved to Germany in 1978 in the ice hockey Bundesliga for the Mannheim ERC, now known as Adler Mannheim . In three seasons he scored 24 goals and 66 assists in 101 games. Meeke was known in Germany for his tough physical game and had to go to the penalty box for a total of 257 minutes over the three seasons . He had been used as a defender in Mannheim. Despite his many penalties, he was one of the guarantors for winning the German championship in the 1979/1980 season , to which the team was led by coach Heinz Weisenbach . 1981 Meeke ended his career. In 1998, Meeke was chosen by his former teammate Harold Kreis on the occasion of his farewell game as a defender in the MERC Dream Team.
