Brian E. Daley

Brian Edward Daley SJ (born January 1, 1940 in Orange , New Jersey) is an American Jesuit and university professor .

Life

Brian Daley is from New Jersey . In 1961 he graduated from Fordham University and earned a master at Merton College of Oxford University in 1967. Daley was in 1964 the Jesuits joined and in 1970 for priests ordained. In Germany he studied at the Philosophical-Theological College Sankt Georgen before returning to Oxford, where he received his doctorate in 1978.

In his spare time, Daley prefers to do amateur boxing . He is a past president of the North American Patristic Society and is the editor of Traditio . He is also a member of the editorial team of the Journal of Early Christian Studies .

From 1978 to 1996 Daley taught at the Weston School of Theology. In 1996 he became a faculty member at Notre Dame University , where he now holds the Catherine F. Huisking Chair of Theology.

Research and Teaching

Daley is a historian of theology and focuses primarily on patristics . His interests include the development of Christological and Trinitarian doctrine , the exegesis of early scriptures and Mariology . In professional journals, Daley published a variety of articles on early Christology , Trinitarian theology, and eschatology .

According to Chairman John Cavadini of the Theological Faculty of Notre Dame, "Brian is recognized as one of the foremost scholars in the field of patristics." In Daley's honor, the collection of essays " In the Shadow of the Incarnation: Essays on Jesus Christ in the Early Church in Honor of Brian E. Daley, SJ " was published by Prof. Peter W. Martens. a. the work of new PhD students is gathered.

Awards

On October 20, 2012, Brian Daley was welcomed by the "Vatican Foundation Joseph Ratzinger - Pope Benedict XVI." the Joseph Ratzinger Prize awarded. The philosopher Rémi Brague was honored with him .
