Brian O'Neil (born September 6, 1972 in Paisley ) is a retired Scottish football player .

O'Neil began his career in 1991 for Celtic Glasgow . Until 1997 he played 150 times for the club and attracted attention especially because of his flexibility. He made it to the Scottish national team in 1996 . In 1997 it was awarded to Nottingham Forest . Brian O'Neil rarely played for the English club and was not signed afterwards. The FC Aberdeen was willing to sign him, and took O'Neil to Scotland back.

He drew the attention of the German first division club VfL Wolfsburg during his 29 appearances for Aberdeen . The defensive specialist knew how to convince in the 1998/99 season. During his engagement, VfL Wolfsburg was even able to qualify for the UEFA Cup . The popular Scot played for the Wolves until 2000 and made a total of 50 Bundesliga games and three goals.

His next stop was Derby County in England . Due to numerous injuries, he was unable to build on his previous performance. In the years 2000 to 2003 he only managed 17 missions. After a dispute with the club's management, Brian O'Neil went to Preston North End . In the 2nd division of England he flourished again and played a total of 112 times (five goals) for Preston until 2006. He also came to individual missions for the national team. In 2005 he played for Scotland for the seventh and last time. Ultimately, an injury forced him to end his career; O'Neil was also very popular with Preston North End fans.
