Bridie O'Donnell (born April 29, 1974 in Corinda ) is a former Australian cyclist who is active in road cycling . On January 22nd, 2016, she set a new hour record over 46.882 kilometers.

Athletic career

Bridie O'Donnell was the Olympic Games in Sydney inspired to participate in competitive sports. To this end, she moved from her hometown of Brisbane to Melbourne . She became a successful rower, but after five years she lost the fun, "five years of cold mornings and calloused hands". So she turned to cycling because it was "lighter" than others. First of all, she started at Ironman events. When she gained the necessary strength and endurance, she applied to the Australian Institute of Sport . From 2008 she also worked as a doctor. As her sporting goals, she named a world championship title and participation in the Olympic Games, but neither of which she has achieved so far.

By 2006 O'Donnell won three titles as Oceania champion and in 2008 was Australian champion in the individual time trial . In 2007 she took second place in the renowned Chrono des Nations time trial .

On January 22nd, 2016 Bridie O'Donnell set a new hour record in the Adelaide Super-Drome with 46.882 kilometers and improved the existing record of Molly Shaffer Van Houweling from September 12th 2015 by 608 meters.

Professional

In November 2017, trained physician Bridie O'Donnell became the first director of the newly established Office for Women in Sport and Recreation (OWSR) of the government of the Australian state of Victoria . This authority strives for gender equality in all functions in sport.
