Brienomyrus is a genus of African freshwater fish from the Nilhechte family(Mormyridae). The genus is widespread in Africa and occurs in West Africa from Senegal to the Congo Basin and the White Nile .

features

Brienomyrus species become 7.7 to 16 centimeters long. Your body is elongated and flattened on the sides. The body height is 15 to 24% of the standard length . The back and stomach lines are parallel over a large part of the length of the body. The dorsal and anal fin are located in the back of the body, with the anal fin being longer than the dorsal fin. The anal fin begins in front of the dorsal fin attachment and ends behind the dorsal fin end. The long anal fin of Brienomyrus is the clearest distinguishing feature from the similar genus Paramormyrops . The head makes up 15 to 22% of the standard length. The snout is not tubular, but rounded. The mouth is at the end or at the bottom and has five double-pointed or indented teeth in the upper jaw and six similar teeth in the lower jaw. Like all Nilhechte, Brienomyrus species are capable of electrical communication and electrical orientation. The "chin" is equipped with electroreceptors, but does not protrude. The nostrils are clearly spaced halfway between the eyes and the tip of the snout. The lateral ethmoid bone is reduced or absent. There are 12 scales around the tail fin stalk. The fish are inconspicuous, mostly monochrome grayish or brownish in color.
