Brierfield is an unincorporated community in Bibb County in the state of Alabama in the United States .
geography
Brierfield is located in central Alabama in the southern United States. It is located approximately 60 kilometers west of the 1,389 square kilometer Talladega National Forest .
Nearby places include Wilton (4 km north), Montevallo (6 km north), Jemison (15 km south-east), Calera (18 km north-east) and Centerville (21 km south-west). The next larger city is Birmingham, about 40 kilometers to the north, with a population of 212,000 .
history
The place grew up around iron forges that were built in the 1860s. The name is derived from rose or thorn bushes in the vicinity. A post office was opened in 1881.
Two sites in Brierfield are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of July 3, 2019, the Blocton Italian Catholic Cemetery and the Brierfield Furnace .

Brierfield is located directly on Alabama State Route 139 , which connects to US Highway 82 in the south .
About 19 kilometers northeast is the Shelby County Airport , 20 kilometers southwest also the Bibb County Airport .
Brierfield Furnace
In the place are the Brierfield Furnace: Fireplaces and furnaces, which were built from 1861. Due to the high quality of the forged iron, it was mainly in demand for military purposes such as the Civil War . Towards the end of the war the area was destroyed, but later rebuilt. Today's park has a size of about 197 acres , the entire surrounding Brierfield Ironworks Historical State Park is visited by over 60,000 people annually.
