Brigitte Profos

Brigitte Profos-Meier (born January 15, 1943 in Oberwil bei Zug , Zug ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 2001 to 2006 she was a member of the government of the Canton of Zug, and in 2005 she held the office of Landammann .

biography

Brigitte Profos attended the Gymnasium Winterthur, which she graduated with the Matura. She then trained to be a primary school teacher at the Zurich Oberseminar, which was followed by training as a curative teacher at the Zurich Curative Education Seminar. Brigitte Profos is married and has two children.

Political functions

Profos was elected church councilor from 1978–1989 by the Evangelical Reformed parish of the canton of Zug and served as council president from 1982–1989. She joined the Zug Social Democratic Party in 1993. From 1994 to 1998 she was a member of the Zug Cantonal Council and was primarily involved in social and health issues. From 1999 to 2001 Profos was a member of the cantonal commission for equality between women and men in the canton of Zug.

She ran in the highly competitive government council elections in 1998 and was defeated by her rival Monika Hutter . In 2001 she became the successor to Monika Hutter, who was killed as the incumbent government councilor during the Zug attack . On December 16, 2004, the head of the Interior Directorate was the first woman to be elected mayor of the Canton of Zug.

From 2001 to 2006 Profos was a member of the executive board of the Social Democratic Party of the Canton of Zug.
