Britta Jänicke (born December 15, 1958 in Dortmund , born Britta Dornquast ) is a former German handball player who was active for the Bundesliga club TSV Jarplund-Weding , although she was born without a left forearm. She also took part in the Paralympic Summer Games as a track and field athlete .

Life

Jänicke started playing handball at SV Adelby and played for TSV Jarplund-Weding in the handball Bundesliga in the 1980s . In the seasons 1982/83 and 1983/84 she was one of the ten most dangerous goal players in the league. In 1984 she had to give up playing handball due to back problems and problems with the Achilles tendon. A year later she started playing disabled sports . As a track and field athlete, she took part in the Paralympic Games. At the 1988 Summer Paralympics , Jänicke won the gold medal in the disciplines of discus throwing and javelin throw , at the 1996 Summer Paralympics he won the bronze medal in the discus throw and the silver medal in the shot put, and at the Summer Paralympics 2000 the bronze medal in the discus throw and the gold medal in the shot put.

Jänicke started training handball teams at the age of 16. At first she worked for SV Adelby. Later Jänicke coached the B-youth at SG Flensburg-Handewitt and the women's team at TSV Lindewitt. Since 2001 she has been leading the training of several handball teams at TSV Munkbrarup , which became HFF Munkbrarup (Handball Friends Flensburg-Munkbrarup) in 2008.

For her sporting successes at the Paralympic Games in 1988, 1996 and 2000 and the medals she won, she was awarded the Silver Lorbberblatt.
