The Britzer Parkbahn is a park railway that has existed since 1985 in the Britzer Garten in Berlin-Neukölln . The track width is 600 mm.

history

The 5.0 km long circuit was built on the occasion of the Federal Garden Show (BUGA) and was initially referred to as the Garden Show Railway. From 1986 to 2013 the facility was operated as a Britzer Museum Railway.

In 2009, an alleged harassment of park visitors was the subject of a parliamentary question to the Berlin Senate due to the exhaust gases emitted by the locomotives. In its response, the Senate describes the Britz Museum Railway as a “popular attraction”. Only when the diesel locomotives are started is there a brief increase in smoke.

In 2013 there was no traffic on the facility. After the contract with the previous operator was not extended, the facility was leased again in 2014. In April 2014 the Feldbahn Betriebsgesellschaft from Ilmenau took over the management with its own vehicles.

In the spring of 2016, the route was relocated in the area of the lawn and the play area in order to avoid dangerous situations with children playing there. This shortened the route length slightly.

investment

The railway line runs on the edge of the park area with numerous curves, a bridge overpass and an underpass. There are three train stations and two stops along the route:

  • Buckower Dam
  • Fairground
  • Heidehof
  • Calendar space
  • rose Garden

The engine shed is located near the Buckower Damm entrance.

vehicles

From 1986 to 2013 vehicles of the operator at that time were used. T. were based on historical models. In 2008 there were u. a. a replica of an electric tram vehicle in Groß-Lichterfelde , a Deutz diesel locomotive, type LM216 F, B-pm (built in 1927) and a diesel locomotive made by Orenstein & Koppel , type MD2b, B-dm (built in 1953). Several passenger cars were also available.

The current operator uses vehicles from the 1950s. The two Ns2f locomotives come from Lokomotivbau Karl Marx Babelsberg . The open passenger cars are roofed over and have been specially prepared for the Britzer Garten. They each offer space for 20 to 25 people.

In 2016, a light rail steam locomotive was used at Easter and Ascension Day; this was the first ever scheduled use of a steam locomotive on the site. The type Bt locomotive, manufactured by Orenstein & Koppel in Drewitz in 1920 with the serial number 7697, was originally used by the Himmelmoor peat railway .

business

Since April 2014 the Britzer Parkbahn has been running regularly with a train every hour. If necessary and on selected public holidays, two trains are used.
