Briza humilis is a species of the sweet grassfamily(Poaceae).
description
Briza humilis is an annual Horst Therophyte that reaches heights of 8 to 40 centimeters. The leaves are 1 to 2 millimeters wide. The panicle is narrow and elongated, its branches are pressed. The spikelets are gray, ovate, erect and pointed.
The flowering period extends from May to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 14.
Occurrence
Briza humilis occurs in the eastern Mediterranean and the Orient. Their distribution area extends from southeast Europe to Crimea and Iran. On Karpathos the species grows in oak and pine forests, in Phrygana and on fallow land at altitudes of around 500 meters.
