Emergence

The from Toronto native singer and guitarist Justin Benlolo wrote the songs of the album mostly in Los Angeles . At Mate's Studios in North Hollywood , demo recordings were made , which he sent to producer Joel Hamilton. He then invited Benlolo to his Studio G. in Brooklyn to produce the album. The album was recorded live on tape . According to Justin Benlolo, the music would get a special saturation, especially with the bass and drums, that would not be there on a digital recording. For the songs shot down , Papercuts and flow in the Honey were music videos rotated.

The opening song I Can't Lie is about the experiences that singer Justin Benlolo had during his time in Los Angeles. Some friends would have stabbed him in the back with a knife for no reason. Shot Down has some sexual innuendos, according to Benlolo. However, the title could be interpreted as a song about a natural disaster such as a landslide .

With the song Flies in the Honey , singer Justin Benlolo criticizes the big pharmaceutical manufacturers . In his opinion, doctors are prescribing too many people drugs that they don't need. Doctors would prescribe these drugs like candy. The song is about the prescription of amphetamines , with Benlolo writing from his own experience.

"I've seen friends who were going to university or college who would go crazy looking like zombies ."

- Justin Benlolo

Papercuts describes people's darker sides and their selfish and selfish attitudes . It is about the reasons why these people refuse to admit that there are things that are wrong with them. The final In Your Hands , however, would be an ode to life.

Jörg Staude from the German magazine Rock Hard wrote that Brkn Love would "deliver a great performance" with her debut. The band has “gripping rhythms, big hymns and small melody jewels” that the album “never lets you get boring”. Staude awarded eight out of ten points. Frank Thießies from the German magazine Metal Hammer certified the band with an “above-average song hit rate”, but criticized the “lack of real band community authenticity”, which “makes the whole thing seem somehow constructed”. Thießies awarded four out of seven points.
