Brkn Love ( proper spelling : ฿ Ɽ ₭ ₦ ⱠØVɆ) is a Canadian alternative rock band from Toronto .
history
Behind the band is Toronto-born singer and guitarist Justin Benlolo, who left school at the age of 16 and moved first to New York City and then to Los Angeles . There he recorded various demos that aroused the interest of producer Joel Hamilton (including Highly Suspect ). Hamilton invited Benlolo to Brooklyn to record the debut album live. The band name came about after Benlolo first made a list of his favorite albums and songs and then combined the first word of his favorite albums with the last word of his favorite songs. The band was completed by the guitarist Kyle Duke, the bassist Nick Katz and the drummer Russel Holzman, all of whom come from New York City.
After a concert in New York City, Brkn Love was signed to the Finnish label Spinefarm Records in March 2019 . The first single Shot Down reached number eleven on the Canadian rock charts. In the summer and autumn of 2019, the band toured North America first with Dinosaur Pile-Up and then as a support act for Pop Evil and then performed at the Aftershock Festival . The self-titled album Brkn Love was supposed to be released on November 22, 2019, but the release has been postponed to February 14, 2020. This was followed by a tour of Canada with Royal Tusk and a North American tour in support of Pop Evil.
style
Justin Benlolo named the bands Kiss , Soundgarden , Black Sabbath , Queens of the Stone Age , Foo Fighters and the singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley as his main influences. Peter Kubaschk from the online magazine Powermetal.de wrote that Justin Benlolo is obviously inspired by bands like Nirvana , Soundgarden or Wolfmother and that he gives this a certain punk attitude. According to Frank Thießies from the German magazine Metal Hammer , Brkn Love have “the greatest common denominator of the last 30 years of alternative rock music ”. The result would sound like Bush's idea of nirvana sometimes , then a bastard of Wolfmother, The White Stripes, and Muse .
