Broadwood is a small settlement in the Far North District of Northland on the North Island of New Zealand .
geography
Broadwood is around 15 km north of Hokianga Harbor and around 17 km east of Herekino . The New Zealand State Highway 1 passes the settlement 10 km northeast.
history
The Broadwood area was settled by Europeans in the 1880s and an access road from Takahue to Motukaraka was built on Hokianga Harbor . A dirt road through Te Karae Valley to Kohukohu was built in 1908.
education
The Broadwood Area School is a composite school for grades 1-15 with a decile rating of 1. She had in 2009 135 students. There was a state-sponsored school in Broadwood from 1895 to 1904. The current school was founded in 1908. It became a district high school in 1952 , and in 1973 it was given area school status .
