Bronkhorstspruit is a city in the metropolitan municipality of Tshwane in the South African province of Gauteng . It is 45 kilometers east of Pretoria on the N4 national road , on the border with the Mpumalanga province at an altitude of 1,375 meters. In 2011 it had 3720 inhabitants.
history
On December 20, 1880 one of the first serious fighting of the First Boer War took place here ( Battle of Bronkhorstspruit ). 156 killed or wounded British soldiers were compared to 7 dead or wounded on the Boer side. In 1894 a train station was built here on the Delagoabahn ; The city was founded in 1905. It is named after the Bronkhorst family who settled here from 1858.

- Nan Hua Temple , the largest Buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere. This is also where the South African headquarters of the Buddhist order Fo Guang Shan is located
