Bror Emil Hildebrand

Bror Emil Hildebrand (born February 22, 1806 in Flerohopp , today Nybro municipality , † August 30, 1884 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish archaeologist and numismatist .

Hildebrand began at the 1820 Lund University to study, where he joined in 1830 as a lecturer habilitated . Two years later he was appointed assistant to the Royal Coin Cabinet in Stockholm and in 1837 he was appointed Imperial antiquarian (i.e. director of the State Archaeological-Historical Museum and the Royal Coin Cabinet, inspector of monuments) and secretary of the Royal Academy of Fine Sciences ( Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies ) appointed. He held this office until 1879.

From 1866 he was a member of the Swedish Academy and sat on the eleventh chair of the academy's 18 numbered chairs.

In 1845 he was accepted as a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences and in 1859 of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg .

After Bror Emil Hildebrand retired as a Reichsantiquar, his son Hans Hildebrand was appointed as his successor.
