Hans Olof Hildebrand Hildebrand (born April 5, 1842 in Stockholm ; † February 2, 1913 there ) was a Swedish prehistorian .

Life

Hans Hildebrand, son of Bror Emil Hildebrand , studied at Uppsala University from 1860 to 1865 and was then employed at the archaeological museum. After his father resigned in 1879, Hildebrand was appointed imperial antiquarian .

In 1873 he co-founded the Swedish Geographical-Anthropological Society, made several trips for scientific purposes, was Secretary General of the International Anthropological-Archaeological Congress in Stockholm in 1874 and represented Sweden at the congresses in Bologna, Brussels, Budapest and Lisbon.

Hildebrand was elected to the Swedish Academy in 1891 and succeeded Fredrik August Dahlgren (1816–1895) in chair 6 , who was taken over by Sven Hedin after Hildebrand's death . In addition, from 1874 he was a member of the Kungliga Vitterhets Historie och Antikvitets Academies (from 1879 to 1907 as their secretary) and a corresponding member of the Berlin Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and Prehistory and the Russian Academy of Sciences in Saint Petersburg .

Hildebrand was married to Elin Maria Charlotta (born Martin, born January 18, 1845, † March 23, 1922) since October 9, 1867.
