The Brown Eyed Girls ( Hangeul : 브라운 아이드 걸스 ) are a South Korean girl group that is under contract with Mystic Entertainment . The group consists of the four members Jea, Gain , Narsha and Miryo. Since their debut, the group gained popularity in South Korea through some hit singles.
history
2006: Your Story and Leave Ms Kim
The leader of the group, Jea, was responsible for the composition of the group and was actively involved in the selection of the remaining members. The first member Jea picked was Miryo, who was already known as an underground rapper. Miryo was already known through collaborations with Gil Seong-joon from the group Leessang , as well as her membership in the hip-hop group Honey Family . Narsha was chosen second by Jea, who remembered Narsha as a talented singer from her high school days. Gain was chosen last of the three members. According to her testimony, composer Ahn Jung-hoon found her crying after a failed audition at Battle Shin Hwa and was then introduced to the three older members. Singer Yoari trained with the group until 2006, but then left the group before debuting when it was discovered that her voice did not match the rest of the group.
After more than three years of vocal training, Brown Eyed Girls released their first album Your Story on March 2, 2006 with the ballad Come Closer as the theme song. They followed the concept of a “faceless group” so they didn't appear in public and didn't even appear in their own music video. The album received good reviews but did not sell as well as expected. They later released a second version of the album with a new song Hold the Line , which became a hit and increased the group's notoriety.
After a short break, the Brown Eyed Girls released their second studio album called Leave Ms. Kim ( 떠나라 미스 김 ) with the R&B title track I Got Fooled By You ( 너 에게 속았다 ). The following singles were Oasis ( 오아시스 ) with Lee Jae-hoon and It's mine (내 꺼야), a collaboration with the SeeYa group. The title track I Got Fooled By You was released almost at the same time as Nobody by the Wonder Girls , which became a national hit. This put the Brown Eyed Girls album in the shadows, but still sold better than its predecessor.
2008: With LOVE and My Style
In January 2008, Brown Eyed Girls released their first mini album With LOVE and the accompanying single LOVE . The single was a farewell to the group's previous sound, but it became a hit and gave the four members their first number one hit. Love Action was the second single from the mini album. LOVE was composed by Saint-Binary and Lee Min-soo.
To hold on to their streak of success, the Brown Eyed Girls returned in September with their second mini album, My Style . The title track How Come ( 어쩌다 ) is a retro style dance track, but it didn't become as popular as its predecessor LOVE . Although the competition in the charts was fierce, the Brown Eyed Girls still reached number 1 with How Come .
2009: Sound-G.
On July 20, 2009, Sound-G. released the group's third studio album. Candy Man was the first single, but the album's title track was Abracadabra , composed by Ji-nu and Lee Min-soo, written by Kim Ean and Miryo.
2015: Change to the new label.
After Ga-In switched to the APOP Entertainment label, the other members followed on October 1st and are now under contract as a group with APOP Entertainment.
With the release of the album, there was also an image change. The members now represented independent and proud women. The music video for the song was controversial in Korea because it shows intimate scenes and a near kiss between members Narsha and Gain. Later a "stage version" was published, which focuses only on the choreography. Despite the controversial music video, the song became a huge hit and won several music awards. The group's “Arrogant Dance” ( 시건방 춤 ) became their trademark.
They later released a new edition of the album with the new single sign and a new music video. This video was also shot controversially due to brutal scenes. Sign was able to build on the success of Abracadabra , but did not become as famous.
Soundtracks
The Brown Eyed Girls also contributed music to the soundtracks of a number of drama series, including 포도밭 그 사나이 (the song “Loving You”), 게임 의 여왕 (the song “ 독 한사랑 ”) and 대조영 (the track “ 대조영 ”).
Label change and basic
On October 1st, 2015, all members of the group moved to Mystic Entertainment after their contracts with Nega Network expired.
The sixth mini-album BASIC was released on November 5, 2015 .
