Browningia chlorocarpa is a species of the genus Browningia in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet chlorocarpa means '(Latin chlorocarpus) green fruity'.
description
Browningia chlorocarpa grows tree-shaped, reaches heights of stature of 1.5 meters or more and forms a dense crown that sits on a short trunk. The richly branched shoots are cloudy green. There are nine to ten ribs that are broken up into low humps. From the brownish areoles on it arise brownish to blackish thorns that turn gray with age. The one to four unevenly long central spines are arranged crosswise, strongly sub-sub and 3 to 6 centimeters long. The eight to ten radiating radial spines have a length of up to 1 centimeter.
The flowers are reddish orange. The species is not well known.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Browningia chlorocarpa is widespread in the border area of the Peruvian regions of Piura and Cajamarca near Huancabamba .
It was first described as Cactus chlorocarpus in 1823 by Karl Sigismund Kunth . William Taylor Marshall placed them in the genus Browningia in 1945 .
In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Near Threatened (NT) ", d. H. listed as low risk.
