While there is also a district called Broxtowe in adjacent Nottingham itself, a small part of the Nottingham district of Wollaton is in the area of Borough Broxtowe.

The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was formed from the merger of the urban districts of Beeston and Stapleford and Eastwood and part of the rural district of Basford.
