Gedling is an administrative district with borough status in Nottinghamshire in England . The administrative seat is the city of Arnold , but the district is named after the village of Gedling . Other significant places are Burton Joyce , Carlton , Colwick and Ravenshead . There is a city partnership with Rotenburg an der Fulda .
The district was formed on April 1, 1974 and was created from the merger of the Urban Districts Arnold and Carlton and part of the Rural District Basford.
