The Broyhanhaus is a residential and commercial building built in 1576 in Hanover's old town . The house standing on the cellar walls of a previous building from the 14th century is the second oldest preserved half-timbered building in Hanover . The house is named after the brewer Cord Broyhan , who lived in it from 1537.

Location and description

The Broyhanhaus is located at Kramerstraße 24 in Hanover's old town . It is located in a row of historic half-timbered buildings in the immediate vicinity of the Marktkirche .

The building is a typical residential and commercial building from the early days in Hanover. It is a four-storey half - timbered building with a three-storey extension halfway across the back. The classicist house facade from 1830 is faded in and does not match the original appearance in terms of color and shape. In the facade there are remains of the oldest shop window facade in Hanover.

The first building was built around 1400. In the second half of the 15th century, a new building was built. The current building on the two-aisled vaulted cellar of the porch dates from 1576. This makes it the second oldest residential building after the house at Burgstrasse 12 from 1566.

The owners of the property have been handed down since 1428. The majority of them were Kramer who worked in the house. From 1537 the brewer Cord Broyhan lived in the house.

The building was examined in 1984 and then restored until 1987. Today the building is used as a restaurant on the two lower floors and in the vaulted cellar and as a residential building on the upper floors.
