Bruce is the name of a Russian aristocratic family that emerged from the Scottish Bruce clan and is now extinct .

history

Probably in connection with the English Civil War and the activities of Cromwell , members of the Bruce clan, more precisely the Bruce of Airth family , a branch of the Bruce of Clackmannan family , moved to Russia and joined the army there as officers. William Bruce († 1680) served the tsar for over 30 years and died as a Russian major general. He had a daughter and two sons Robert Bruce (1668-1720) and Jacob Daniel Bruce (1669-1735), who also rose to the rank of general in the army . The older of the two were raised to the Russian count status, but since he died without leaving children, the title of count was transferred in 1721 to his nephew Alexander Bruce (1708-1752), also major general. He also inherited the Glinki estate near Moscow from his uncle. Count Jacob Bruce (1732–1791), son of the aforementioned, was General en chef , Commander in Chief of Moscow . He left only one daughter, who was married to Vasily Walentinowitsch Mussin-Pushkin (1773-1836). In 1796 he received imperial approval to use the name and title of Count Mussin-Pushkin-Bruce, but did not continue the tribe , with the result that the Bruce family in Russia was finally extinct.
