Bruce J. Graham

Bruce John Graham (born December 1, 1925 in La Cumbre , Colombia , † March 6, 2010 in Jupiter , Florida ) was an American architect .

Life

Bruce J. Graham was born in La Cumbre, Colombia, the son of a Canadian banker and a Peruvian. His mother tongue is Spanish.

He graduated from the Colegio San Jose de Rio Piedras in Puerto Rico in 1944 . He then studied at the University of Dayton and the Case School of Engineering in Ohio . He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in architecture in 1948 . He then started his career in Chicago at Holabird & Roche before moving to the office of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill . A few years later he rose to head the office.

He worked with civil engineer Fazlur Khan on the construction of the Willis Tower , the John Hancock Center and the Inland Steel Building , among others . He also had long-term friendships with Alexander Calder , Joan Miró , Chryssa , Eduardo Chillida and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe .
