The Bruchfeldstraße is the main street of the Frankfurt district of Niederrad . It is a residential and shopping street that leads from the intersection at the northwest corner of the racecourse in the east to Haardtwaldplatz in the west. The street runs in the first third to Schwarzwaldstraße in a slight right-hand curve, then it runs in an almost straight line through the district.

traffic

Due to its character as an inner-city thoroughfare and shopping street, Bruchfeldstrasse is very busy. Motor vehicle traffic consists almost exclusively of cars and delivery traffic with smaller vans, only a few trucks pass the road.

Only a small part of the rush hour traffic to the Niederrad office district uses Bruchfeldstraße to avoid the waiting times at the traffic lights for Niederräder and Schwanheimer Uferstraße during rush hour.

Tram line 15 , which connects Sachsenhausen and Niederrad, runs through Bruchfeldstrasse . The bus route 51 also runs through Bruchfeldstrasse, its route runs via Schwanheim to Höchst .

Development

The development on Bruchfeldstrasse is not uniform. Wilhelminian style buildings that have been preserved despite severe war damage alternate with residential and commercial buildings from the post-war period and the 1970s and 1980s. In the middle of Bruchfeldstrasse, opposite Bruchfeldplatz, the Catholic Church Mother of Good Advice dominates .

The externally simple church building made of red bricks was built in 1932/33. The interior of the church includes a Marian altar from the late 15th century and a medieval crucifix. Glass windows were created in 1933 by the glass painter Otto Linnemann from Frankfurt. The Albiez organ, built in 1983 with its 52 stops, is one of the largest in Frankfurt. Also noteworthy is the chime made of five steel bells weighing almost 12,000 kilograms by the Bochumer Verein in 1948 , one of the few steel chimes that have survived from the post-war period.

Most of the houses in the eastern and middle thirds of Bruchfeldstrasse house shops on the lower floor. In the western third there are mainly residential buildings. The red and white buildings of the Bruchfeldstrasse housing estate , popularly known as "Zigzackhausen", are striking here .

Economical meaning

Bruchfeldstrasse is a central shopping street for the Niederrad district. The business structure includes small retail stores in various industries, branches of discounters , service providers, restaurants and a hotel. Some doctor and law offices can be found on the upper floors of the houses.
