The Bruchsee is an 11- hectare quarry pond in Heppenheim in southern Hesse at the foot of the Odenwald .
geography
The lake is about 650 meters long and 210 meters wide. At a depth of 14.5 meters at the deepest point and an average depth of around 7 meters, it holds around 800,000 cubic meters of water. The Bruchsee is located in the bed of a former Rhine river bank.
The lake is accessible by walking paths. At the southern tip there is a bird park and a reed area .
Emergence
The lake was created in 1967 by the removal of around 12,000 cubic meters of bog and the extraction of around one million cubic meters of gravel , which was used for the construction of the A5 .
