The Brunei Navy ( English Royal Brunei Navy , Malay Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei ) are the naval forces of the Sultanate of Brunei .

The main task of the navy is to secure the coast and carry out SAR operations. Main items of equipment include rocket speedboats and coastal patrol boats . In 2009, the German shipyard Lürssen launched the first new Darussalam class patrol boat for Brunei.

history

The Brunei Navy was established on June 14, 1965, four years after the Brunei Malay Regiment was established . It was originally not a separate armed force , but only a boat section of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces . The manpower was only 18 soldiers, including an officer of the 1st Battalion, who had completed basic military training in Malaya from 1961 to 1964 . This boat section was equipped with a series of aluminum boats, speedboats known in Malay as Temuai . The role of the boat section was exclusively to ensure the transport of infantry elements into the interior of Brunei. As the organization expanded with the help of stable economic growth, the boat section was renamed the boat company in 1966.

The boat company received three river patrol boats in 1966 . These boats were named KDB Bendahara , KDB Maharajalela and KDB Kermaindera . All ships were manned by Brunières, led by a qualified commander . In the same year the strength of the boat company was increased by air cushion boats of the type SR.N5 , in 1968 by the successor SR.N6.

The first fast patrol boat was put into service in 1968 and was called KDB Pahlawan . It became the boating company's first flagship .

The boat company was reorganized as Angkatan Laut Pertama, Askar Melayu DiRaja Brunei (ALP AMDB) and the First Sea Battalion, Royal Brunei Malay Regiment . It was one of the larger branches of the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment. During this time, the estimated strength of the 1st Sea Battalion was 42 soldiers including one officer. The equipment consisted of a fast patrol boat, three river patrol boats, two hovercraft, a fast attack boat, some long boats and some temuai (aluminum boats).

In 1971, the 1st Sea Battalion received two more coastal patrol ships, KDB Saleha and KDB Masna .

The 1st Maritime Battalion was reorganized as the Royal Brunei Navy on October 1, 1991 as the armed forces in Brunei had grown after independence from the United Kingdom .

In 2019, the Marine Brunei presented the Digital Disruptive Pattern in digital blue colors as a new pattern of the combat suits on the occasion of the celebration of the 58th anniversary in the Bolkiah Garrison .
