The air force of Brunei ( English Royal Brunei Air Force , Malay Tentera Udara Diraja Brunei ) are the air force of the Sultanate of Brunei .

history

The Air Force was founded in 1965 as the air transport section of the Royal Brunei Malay Regiment . At the beginning it was commissioned, with two Sikorsky S-55 transport helicopters, the pilots of the Worldwide Helicopter Company operated, doctors in rural areas to fly. In 1966 the duties were taken over by pilots of the British Royal Air Force with three Westland Whirlwind helicopters .

In 1967 the unit was renamed the Helicopter Platoon and received five Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopters. An air technology training school was founded in 1980. In 1981 the second squadron was founded and equipped with six Bölkow Bo 105 helicopters. The third season was founded in 1982 and equipped with SIAI-Marchetti SF.260s . When Brunei took over responsibility for its own national defense from the United Kingdom in 1984 , the aviation section was expanded. On October 1, 1991, this section was officially renamed the Royal Brunei Air Force with the consent of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah .

The Fourth Squadron was established in 1997 and equipped with Blackhawk S-70A helicopters. The fifth squadron was also established in 1997 and equipped with a CN-235 aircraft and the base defense squadron . That same year, the third season was the Pilatus PC-7 Mark II - training aircraft . The 38th Squadron was established in 1999 and is equipped with the Mistral anti-aircraft missile .

Brigadier General Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sahat has been the commander of the Brunei Air Force since August 15, 2018 .

organization

The air force consists of five wings:

  1. Operation Wing - the operation wing
  2. Air Regiment - the flight regiment
  3. Logistics Wing - the logistics wing
  4. Training Wing - the training wing
  5. Administration Wing - the administration wing

Operation Wing

The operations wing consists of four flying squadrons and two additional units :

  • The first squadron was equipped with the Bell 212 and Bell 214ST helicopters . Their main tasks are troop transport , evacuation of the injured, medical evacuation, fire fighting, VVIP transport ( Very Very Important Person ) and SAR tasks.
  • The second squadron is equipped with Bölkow Bo 105 helicopters. Their main tasks are the transport of doctors, reconnaissance, surveillance, close air support , VVIP transport and search and location services.
  • The fourth season is equipped with Blackhawk S-70A helicopters. Your main tasks are special forces operations and the tasks of the first squadron: troop transports, evacuation of the injured, medical evacuation, fire fighting, VVIP transport and SAR tasks.
  • The fourth squadron is equipped with a CN-235 aircraft. Their main tasks are troop transport, surveillance, search and localization.
  • The Parachute Airborne Tactical Delivery Unit (PATDU) is a paratrooper unit.
  • A fire brigade unit ensures that aircraft are extinguished in emergencies.

Air regiment

The flight regiment consists of three squadrons and a technical school. It includes the 33rd Squadron, the 38th Squadron and the Base Defense Squadron.

Logistics Wing

The logistics wing consists of three units, namely the engineering unit, the supply unit and the department for the maintenance of technical equipment.

Training Wing

The training wing consists of the third season also known as the Flying Training School (FTS), the Air Technical Training School (ATTS), and the Standard and Evaluation Squadron (STANEVAL). The third season is equipped with Bell 206 Jet Ranger helicopters and Pilatus PC-7 Mk 2 aircraft.

Administration Wing

The administrative wing consists of the physical training department, the wages office, the regimental police, the military transport and the civil office.
