Brunhilde Raiser (born July 31, 1953 ) is a German theologian . From 2004 to 2008 she was chairwoman of the German Women's Council and until 2011 chairwoman of the Evangelical Women in Germany (EFiD).

Brunhilde Raiser, who lives with her husband, a Protestant pastor in Mengen , studied history , German and theology in Munich . Initially, the Raiser, who grew up in Franconia , worked as a teacher before she started working for women in the Evangelical Church in the mid-1980s . Due to the school and university degrees she obtained in Bavaria, she could not be employed as a teacher in Baden-Württemberg, where her husband was working as vicar at the time . Today, in addition to her association activities, she works as a lecturer and preacher and has the right to worship and sacrament in the Württemberg regional church, so she is allowed to hold church services and also baptize.

Association activities

In 2004, Raiser was elected chairwoman of the German Women's Council, an office in which she was confirmed for a second term in 2006. From 1996 to 2008 she was also the chairwoman of Evangelical Women's Aid in Germany (EFHiD) and from 2001 a member of the Presidium of Evangelical Women's Work in Germany (EFD). After the merger of EFHiD and EFD in 2008 to form the new umbrella organization Evangelical Women in Germany (EFD), Brunhilde Raiser was also elected its first chairman. Since 2007 she has also been an ambassador for the campaign for World AIDS Day :

In her adopted home of Mengen, Brunhilde Raiser is the chairwoman of the local hospice group . Brunhilde Raiser has been chairwoman of the Conference of Churches and Associations of the EKD since 2008 . In the local elections in June 2009 she was elected to the municipal council of the city of Mengen.

Main areas of activity

As the mouthpiece of women in Germany, Brunhilde Raiser advocates equal opportunities between the sexes. She places particular emphasis in her lobbying activities on equal pay between men and women, on minimum wages and social security for women in old age. She is also particularly involved in the area of ​​gender-specific human rights. She was a co-founder of the initiative Abpfiff - an end to forced prostitution as part of the 2006 World Cup in Germany. As chairwoman of the German Women's Council, Raiser exerts influence at national and European level when it comes to the implementation of laws on women's rights, equal rights and the avoidance of discrimination .

Award

On October 6, 2008, Brunhilde Raiser received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her socio-political commitment from the hands of Federal President Horst Köhler .
