Brunnenplatz (Radebeul)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Brunnenplatz is an inner-city, passable street square in the original mark of the Saxon city of Radebeul . As the name suggests, the public fountain of the old community of Alt-Radebeul was originally located about 200 meters west of the Rundling Am Kreis .

Location and development

The rectangular Brunnenplatz and the Rundling located to the east are just above and north of the edge of the edge to the Seewiesen . On the south side, the square stretches out two paths to the lake meadows, the eastern one runs exactly south to the edge of the meadows, the western one is somewhat wider and is passable; it runs to the southwest until it meets the Seewiesen, then it also becomes a path and runs as a so-called meadow path west to Friedhofstrasse.

Serkowitzer Strasse runs on the north side of the square ; it comes from the east-northeast direction from Robert-Werner-Platz or the main street and passes the entrance to Am Kreis. On the north side of Brunnenplatz it bends to the west, passes the Radebeul-Ost cemetery and then leads to Anger Altserkowitz .

From the point of view of the traffic management on Serkowitzer Straße, Brunnenplatz bulges on the left side of the street. In the middle of the paved square, but on the side of Serkowitzer Straße, there is a tall tree. It is not clear where the well was.

Several of the former rural properties grouped around the square are under monument protection and are therefore included in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul (district) :

  • Stable house at Brunnenplatz 1 with pull-out house, farmhouse at Brunnenplatz 4, stable house at Brunnenplatz 5 with outbuildings
  • On the opposite side of the street: Homestead Serkowitzer Straße 19

Naming

Officially, Brunnenplatz was given its name in 1897, at the same time as the village center to the east. The passing Serkowitzer Strasse was then called Hauptstrasse and was only renamed with the incorporation of Serkowitz to Radebeul in 1905.
