Main street (Radebeul)
The main street is an inner-city street in the Saxon town of Radebeul , in the districts of Alt-Radebeul and Oberlößnitz . It represents the connection between Robert-Werner-Platz and thus the historic village center of Radebeul ( Am Kreis ) and the most important longitudinal axis of Radebeul, Meißner Straße . The main street as a cross street to Meißner Straße represents the shopping street and thus the main street of Radebeul-Ost according to the Radebeul center concept , as defined for the Bahnhofstraße in Radebeul-West . In addition, the main street leads past the former Oberlößnitz town hall onto the former vineyard corridor of Radebeul, i. H. Oberloessnitz. The total length is about 1.2 kilometers, the section to Meißner Straße is a good 500 meters long.
Development
The numbering of the house addresses begins at Robert-Werner-Platz on the east side of the street, i. H. From there, numbers 1 to 29 run on the right side of the street on Meißner Straße, on the left side of the street it goes to number 26.North of Meißner Straße, numbers 31 to 55 run on the right side, and numbers . 28 to 66.
Many of the buildings on Bahnhofstraße are now listed and are therefore listed in the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul (district) and the list of cultural monuments in Radebeul-Oberlößnitz , some with addresses of cross streets:
- Alt-Radebeul: No. 1 (part of the Robert-Werner-Platz residential complex), Gartenstrasse 10, No. 4 (part of the so-called Funkenburg), No. 6 (part of the so-called Funkenburg), No. 8 (part of the so-called Funkenburg) , Sidonienstraße 1 (monument demolished and replaced) , No. 9 , Schillerschule (No. 10) , No. 11, No. 15 , Wichernstraße 1b, No. 16, No. 20, No. 22, No. 25/27
- Oberlößnitz: Gasthof "Zum Russen" (No. 47) , Oberlößnitz Town Hall (No. 49) , No. 53 , No. 58, Sachsenstrasse 7, No. 62, Villa Marie (No. 64)
In the district monument list of 1979, the intersection of Ernst-Thälmann-Straße / Pestalozzistraße was listed , together with the corner buildings ( Schillerschule , Ernst-Thälmann-Straße 8 , Ernst-Thälmann-Straße 9 and Sidonienstraße 1, which was demolished in 2011 and replaced by a similar new corner ) .
Between this intersection, which also leads east into Sidonienstraße, and Robert-Werner-Platz, the street crosses the tracks of the long-distance railway connection between Leipzig and Dresden, which was established from 1837 to 1839 . From 1883 the tracks of the narrow-gauge Lößnitzgrundbahn were added. Since the beginning of the 20th century, the railway facilities are no longer crossed at ground level, but rather arched over by a road bridge that extends from the Robert-Werner-Platz residential complex in the south to the Funkenburg in the north.
Naming
The main street path is one of the old streets ; it was mentioned in 1641 as a cattle drive and led from the village center of Radebeul to the north or northeast to the forest protection areas of the Junge Heide . The name Triebenweg is documented for later .
After the Radebeul train station was opened in 1860 , the street south of Meißner Strasse was named Bahnhofstrasse by 1872 at the latest . It was probably in this context that the northern part was renamed Russenstrasse , after the inn "Zum Russen" located there .
The street, consisting of different names, Bahnhofstraße and Russenstraße, was rededicated again in 1933 to Hindenburgstraße and in 1945 to Ernst-Thälmann-Straße .
After the fall of the Wall in 1991, the street name Hauptstrasse was given.
Rennsteig
Starting from the Elbfurt near Serkowitz ( Altserkowitz ), the Rennsteig ran in the Middle Ages as a flood-free bypass of the marshy Elbe lowlands along the northern edge of the Seewiesen to the Rundling of the village of Radebeul and from there through the Junge Heide to Klotzsche , from where it is congruent with the Schenkhübel Salzstrasse went to Bühlau .
Whether the Bahnhofstrasse as a cattle route into the Junge Heide was part of the Rennsteig or the route from Robert-Werner-Platz took an eastern path would have to be found out.
Bahnhofstrasse in the Loessnitz villages
In the Lößnitz localities there were station streets from the 19th century. Even if these were renamed in the meantime, due to the merger of Kötzschenbroda and Radebeul in 1991, only one of the two town centers at the respective train station was given the street name. While the name Bahnhofstrasse was dedicated at Radebeul West station, the street at Radebeul Ost station was named Hauptstrasse.
Main streets in the Loessnitz villages
Various streets in the previously independent municipalities were named Hauptstrasse, which had to be given up when it was merged with a neighboring municipality, as double naming was not permitted.
- Alt-Radebeul and Serkowitz : The street from Hauptstraße in Alt-Radebeul and Radebeuler Straße in Serkowitz was renamed to Serkowitzer Straße in 1905 because of the incorporation into Alt-Radebeul .
- Serkowitz : Obere Hauptstrasse was renamed Arndtstrasse in 1905 because it was incorporated into Alt-Radebeul .
- Naundorf : The main street in 1924 because of the association with Kötzschenbroda in Altnaundorf renamed.
- Wahnsdorf : The main street was renamed in 1934 because of the merger with Radebeul in Altwahnsdorf .
- Kötzschenbroda : The main street was renamed in 1935 because of the merger with Radebeul in Altkötzschenbroda .
- Radebeul including Oberlößnitz : Ernst-Thälmann-Strasse was renamed Hauptstrasse in 1991.
