Bruno Amiet

Bruno Alfred Amiet (born May 7, 1903 in Starrkirch-Wil ; † April 23, 1956 in Solothurn , legal resident in Bellach ) was a local Swiss historian.

Bruno Amiet, son of the businessman Karl Amiet and Marie, b. Jeker grew up in Olten and attended grammar school in Aarau . He then studied history, German and Latin philology at the University of Basel , a. a. with Emil Dürr . In 1926 he earned the middle school teacher diploma. In 1928 he received his PhD from the University of Basel with his dissertation “The Solothurn Territorial Policy from 1344 to 1532”. phil. PhD . 1929–1931 he was a district teacher in Reinach AG .

From 1931 until his death in 1956, Amiet worked as a German and history teacher at the Solothurn Cantonal School . From 1949 to 1955 he was President of the Historical Society of the Canton of Solothurn.

In addition to his professional activity, Amiet was also involved within the Christian Catholic Church: 1933–1941 he was President of the Christian Catholic parish in Solothurn, and from 1938–1953 he presided over the Synodal Council of the Christian Catholic Church in Switzerland.

Amiet produced numerous historical works on the city of Solothurn, especially those relating to the Middle Ages. His project of an overall representation of the history of the city and the canton of Solothurn only flourished as far as the first volume, which extends to the end of the Middle Ages. Amiet also devoted himself to the edition of the Solothurn historical sources.
