Bruno Cavalcanti de Araújo (born March 15, 1972 in Recife , Pernambuco ) is a Brazilian lawyer and politician. From May 2016 to November 2017 he was Minister for Cities in the Temer cabinet .

Life

Araújo completed his studies at the traditional law faculty of Recife, the Faculdade de Direito da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco, and went early to the national politics of Pernambuco, where he had already been nominated for the cabinet of the governor Joaquim Francisco . Since 1995 he has been a member of the Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira (PSDB). In 1996 he received his bachelor's degree in law from Edmonds , Washington. He was elected twice from 1999 to 2007 for the PSDB as a member of the Legislative Assembly (Alepe) of his home state. He then obtained three times from 2007 to 2016 the mandate as a federal representative for Pernambuco in the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress . In the 2014 elections in Brazil , he garnered a sufficient 2.94% of the vote.

On April 17, 2016, he cast the 342nd vote for the impeachment proceedings of Dilma Rousseff in the House of Representatives , effective May 12, 2016. On the same day, Michel Temer appointed him city minister.

He is married to Carolina Araújo, with whom he has two daughters.

controversy

Since 2017, Araújo has been one of the three ministers in the Temer cabinet against whom the Federal Prosecutor General has started investigations into corruption in the case of Operation Lava Jato in connection with the state oil company Petrobras .
