Bruno Heiz (born October 27, 1918 in Biasca ; † December 3, 2012 in Basel ) was a Swiss painter .

Live and act

He spent his school days in Winterthur , after which he attended the Zurich School of Applied Arts . Instead of taking further training in Paris as planned , he was drafted into the army during World War II . After a year he was able to take up his first job as a graphic designer and at that time was often in contact with Bernese artists. This decisive influence meant that painting played an increasingly important role in his life.

Heiz achieved his final breakthrough in 1943 when he was accepted into the Society of Swiss Painters, Sculptors and Architects (GSMBA) , today's Visarte . From 1946 Bruno Heiz lived in Basel and worked as a graphic designer for companies in the watch and jewelery industry. He designed exhibition stands and was responsible for advertising. But he always found time to devote himself to painting, exclusively for over 30 years.

He has traveled a lot during this time. Whether from France , Spain , Greece or Egypt , he brought back a multitude of drawings, sketches and memories from everywhere. In the 1970s he built a house on the island of Paros to spend the last years of his life there. Due to the early death of his wife and health problems, he had to give up the house. Between 1986 and 2000, Egypt became his so-called second home. Bruno Heiz has lived in Basel again since 2000 and continues to paint.

Quote: "I keep going until the brush falls out of my hand."

Bruno Heiz died on December 3, 2012, he was buried in the Hörnli cemetery in Basel.
