Bruno Mey

Bruno Mey (* 2. May 1932 ; † thirtieth April 2003 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Sri Lanka , the Maldives and Uganda .

Life

After attending secondary school with a high school diploma, he learned the job of a wheelwright. He began studying political science at DASR , which he completed in 1956 with a degree in political science. He then took up a job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MfAA) of the GDR and became head of the office for foreign correspondents. From 1959 to 1963 he was Vice Consul in the Consulate General of the GDR in Rangoon and from 1963/64 he was Deputy Sector Head in the Foreign Information Department of the MfAA. From 1964 to 1967 he was head of the press department of the GDR trade agency in India. In the following years Mey worked again in the Foreign Information Department of the MfAA, this time as a sector manager and in 1969/70 as a research assistant. From 1970 to 1973 he was Consul and Consul General of the GDR in Calcutta and from 1973 to 1975 Counselor in Bangladesh. From 1975 to 1977 Mey again held a position in the MfAA.

From November 7, 1977 to September 1981 he acted as ambassador of the GDR in Sri Lanka and from January 24, 1978 to September 1981 in the Republic of the Maldives (successor to Kraft Bumbel ). From 1981 to 1985 he was sector manager in the Southeast Asia department of the MfAA. From October 11, 1985 to July 1989, he was ambassador to Uganda (successor to Chargé d'Affaires Christian Kleinhempel ) and most recently a member of the MfAA's Africa department.

Mey was a member of the SED . He was married and had two children. Mey died two days before his 71st birthday and was buried in the Luther churchyard in Berlin.
